A service helping people to battle drug habits and drinking problems is having an open evening to show residents the work it has been doing in the community for two decades.

Recovery Intervention Service Ealing (RISE) is inviting residents to an open evening at its central hub in West Ealing on Thursday (20 September) between 4.30-7.30pm. It will include interactive workshops and testimonials from former service users who will tell their own stories.

For more than 18 years, RISE has been offering support free of charge – from the first moment someone steps foot through the door, through to after-care. It is open five days a week and operates on a drop-in basis. The organisation describes its main goal as helping people to regain control, change the direction of their lives, grow as a person and live life to its full potential. A range of community-based support is provided, as well as a wide variety of treatments, all tailored to individual needs.

Councillor Binda Rai, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for health and adults’ services said: “Substance misuse is an issue in our borough and it cannot be understated the work that RISE has done for our borough and we cannot thank them enough for this. Tackling such an issue is a priority in the borough and treatment services such as RISE are often the first step to recovery from drug and alcohol abuse.”

RISE is a consortium led by Change, Grow, Live (CGL) and includes: Central and North-West London NHS Mental Health Trust; Ealing Drug Alcohol Action Team; and the service user-led organisations Intuitive Recovery and Build on Belief.

Jane Brown, project manager at CGL said: “We have been supporting residents for the best part of 20 years by providing integral services to help stabilise lives and put our service users on a better path in life.

“We have had service users that have gone on to become senior managers in their roles and that is testament to our staff and volunteers that dedicate their time to ensuring each member feels valued as an individual.

“We are inviting our community to come and be our guest, and gain an insight into the services we provide, meet our team and find out more about the opportunities available to support us.”
