Colourful road crossings to brighten up West Ealing

Colourful crossings in West Ealing

You may have started to notice colourful splashes of colour appearing around West Ealing on street art decorating everything from road crossings to utility boxes. It is the early stages of a project to transform the area.

Four multi-coloured crossings have been installed as part of Live West Ealing. The project aims to work to create a more attractive and safer environment for everyone and to, thereby, encourage people to walk, cycle or use public transport; and, ultimately, for residents to enjoy where they live.

Live West Ealing was born when Ealing Council was one of just seven boroughs to be awarded money from Transport for London for a ‘liveable neighbourhood’ scheme. Local people and community groups are being consulted on what to do with the £8.6million funding; and research has been carried out on how, and where, visitors and residents most commonly travel around West Ealing.

The colourful crossings have been installed to brighten up the area and encourage residents to use passageways that connect to the Uxbridge Road at: Green Man Passage, Witham Road, Felix Road and Alexandria Road.

Councillor Mik Sabiers, cabinet member for environment and highways, said: “Live West Ealing is a big project that offers residents and the council an amazing opportunity to improve the area. The council is open to suggestions and wants help from local people to encourage residents to walk, cycle and use public transport. So, I encourage all local residents to get involved in the project and give us feedback on proposals by subscribing for updates on our website.”

Parklets

There are plenty of other installations that have gone up across West Ealing, including ‘parklets’ in which provide a space to sit down and relax while shopping or socialising.
