Ealing Council is once again teaming up with the Great British Spring Clean and is encouraging local people to get involved.

Events and activities are running over the next few weeks for combining enjoyable walks and events with litter-picking They are designed to show just how much we love our parks.

Every Saturday from 23 March through to the end of April, the council’s park rangers will be leading guided walks around the borough’s green spaces, exploring the history, wildlife and features of interest, and doing a spot of litter picking along the way.

Great British Spring Clean events as follows:

• Saturday 23 March, Acton Park (11am – 12.30pm). Guided walk and litter pick with Ealing rangers, meet at Putt in the Park café
  
  
• Tuesday 26 March, Perivale Canal Towpath (10am – 2.30pm). Litter Pick with the Canal and River Trust from road bridge 13, Horsenden Lane North, towards Greenford Road. There are limited places so booking advised
  
  
• Thursday 28 March, Brent Lodge Park (10am – 3pm). Clean up along the river bank in partnership with the London Wildlife Trust. Meet in the car park and please email Alice Wickman to confirm attendance
  
  
• Saturday 30 March, Brent Lodge Park (11am – 12.30pm). Guided walk and pick with Ealing rangers. Meet by café

• Saturday 6 April, Elthorne Park (11am – 12.30pm). Guided walk and pick with Ealing rangers. Meet by the bandstand
  
  
• Saturday 6 April, Walpole Park (2pm – 3.30pm). Litter pick and scavenger hunt. Meet by cafe
  
  
• Saturday 13 April, Belvue Park (11am – 12.30pm). Guided walk and pick with Ealing rangers. Meet by St Mary’s Church
  
  
• Saturday 20 April, Northala Park (11am – 12.30pm). Guided walk and pick with Ealing rangers. Meet by café.
  
  
• Saturday 27 April, Southall Bankside (10.30am – 1pm) Litter pick with Southall Community Alliance outside the Territorial Army Centre, Southall Broadway
  
  
• Sunday 28 April, Pitzhanger Park (10am – 12pm). Pitzhanger Park
  Plog-olution event (see below). Run or walk and litter pick around the park. Meet by Will to Win Café.

These guided walks are just one of the many ways the council is encouraging people to look after their environment and help tackle litter in local parks.

If you prefer doing a litter pick when it suits you, look out for the council’s two-minute litter pick boards in some of our parks, which provide litter-pickers you could borrow to do a quick once over. The council gives free ones to residents who want to get involved – email Vanessa Hampton to request one or to start your own litter-picking group. 

You could also earn great rewards while doing a litter-pick by downloading the free BetterPoints app. Through BetterPoints doing something good such as volunteering, helping with community projects or helping to clean up your local park will get you points. These can be exchanged for high street vouchers or donated to charity.

Lastly, if you like exercising in Ealing’s parks, you could try plogging with
Plog-olution, where you run or walk while litter picking. There is one plog a month in different parks around Ealing.
