The in-crowd: Easy ways to exercise at home

We are all being urged to stay at home, to protect the NHS and save lives. If you can avoid going outdoors for exercise, or just keep that outdoor exposure to a minimum – or if you are just in need of some inspiration – we have a very healthy list of action-packed fun you can do from the comfort of your own homes. You can Get Moving by staying put – whatever your age or ability level.

For those residents who are members of the leisure centres run across the borough by Better or Everyone Active, both organisations are offering online exercise options for their members. Like so many indoor public places across the country, all of their centres are closed for the moment because of the lockdown. Currently both are offering members online workouts as part of a substantially reduced or free membership fee scheme.

TOP SIX ONLINE EXERCISE TIPS

For everyone else, here are our top six tips – and then we have another big, extra list underneath broken down into categories to give you some additional places to try.

Sport England

Sport England has a lot of information on its website about staying active whilst at home. There is information about walking, sitting exercises, strength exercises and balance exercises. There is also a section with online home workouts. CLICK HERE

London Sport

As well as containing general advice about physical activity, the London Sport website has an Active at Home table of online resources and apps. Please note that some of these apps do have a cost. CLICK HERE

NHS England

As well as containing the most up to date information about coronavirus issues, the NHS website has information about looking after your health and well-being. This includes Get Fit with Strength and Flex through five podcasts and Every Mind Matters advice about keeping active with a positive mental outlook. CLICK HERE

This Girl Can

The ‘This Girl Can’ website has lots of information about getting and staying active. This includes fun Disney Dance Alongs, home exercise and other exercise opportunities. CLICK HERE

‘P.E. with Joe’ (the body coach)

Currently a very popular free workout for children that is live every day on Joe Wicks’s YouTube channel. CLICK HERE

Soccercise

Brentford FC Community Sports Trust has produced a Soccercise video, which has been quite popular at schools in Ealing. CLICK HERE
