The government has recently announced extra funding support to help adopted children and those subject to special guardianship orders as a result of the lockdown. And now a video shows adopters and guardians how to access this funding.
To help adopters and special guardians, Adopt London has produced a short animated film showing them how to do it, especially during lockdown.
Produced in partnership with award winning film animation company My Pockets, the film shows the help available during the pandemic for adopters and special guardians.
This way they can further support children who have already experienced trauma in their young lives, through the additional pressure of the COVID-19 virus situation.
The film production has been supported by the National Association of Therapeutic Parenting, PAC-UK, Adoption plus, Kinship Response run by Grandparents Plus, The Adopter Hub run by Parents and Children Together and We Are Family. Together they provide helplines, online training, therapy and counselling support to families and they also provide the opportunity to talk with other families in a similar situation.
Councillor Yvonne Johnson, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Our team has been incredibly hard working and innovative in the time of COVID-19. We welcome the new support package, which will provide an important boost of support to our adoptive families.
“Managing the isolation period and preparing children for going back to school has been a difficult time for many families, whose children may be more anxious – particularly those with additional needs – and this support is needed to ensure families don’t suffer alone.”
Adopt London is a regional adoption agency in London that works across 23 boroughs, including Ealing.
