Summer of Cycling - cyclist in Walpole Park

Why not try before you bike?

Looking to start cycling for the first time or eager to get back on the saddle? Look no further than Ealing Council’s hire-purchase bicycle scheme, Try Before You Bike.

Simple and affordable, the Try Before You Bike scheme allows you to trial a bike before buying it. You can rent a bike from £10 a month until you own it or, if you like the bike, you can buy it at a discounted price. A wide range of bikes are available and Peddle My Wheels delivers it fully assembled to your address. You can choose from a range of accessories using helpful online tools to help you get on your way, and you will receive a personalised two-hour cycle training session to help you build confidence and familiarity with your new ride.

A wide range of bikes are available to meet any occasion from popping to the shops, to family leisure rides. Bikes available include: Two-wheeled bikes for children, folding bikes, electric family bikes and adapted bikes.

The scheme is part of the council’s commitment to increasing the number of people who cycle in the borough. Cycling is an easy way to Get Moving and, when used as an alternative form of transport, it helps to reduce air pollution and traffic congestion.

‘I absolutely love it’

Caroline Hernandez, who lives in Ealing, found the ability to try a bike before purchasing to be really beneficial.

She said: “Having not cycled since childhood I was not sure if commuting on a bike is for me. I absolutely love it and can’t recommend this flexible service highly enough. Cycling has been a major change to my lifestyle, health and fitness and TBYB made it possible.”

Another resident, Christine Goodson, agreed and said: “It was 20 years since I last rode a bike and the thought of doing it again was a bit daunting so Try Before You Bike meant I could really test out how cycling in London would feel without having to spend loads of money first. It turns out I love cycling.”
