Volunteers' Week

Give a helping hand to celebrate National Volunteer Week

Offering to volunteer a helping hand or doing something kind for another person can be a great way to improve our own health and wellbeing.

So, Volunteers’ Week, which takes place between 1-7 June, provides a great opportunity to give up some time to help others and indulge yourself in bit of self-care too.

Ealing Council has partnered up with a number of local community organisations to give residents the opportunity to get out and take part in some fun and active volunteering sessions.

Check out the Do Something Good website, a council and community-run site for residents wanting to get involved with community projects and initiatives, for information about volunteering opportunities.

The community of volunteers from across the borough has been providing vital support for local people throughout the pandemic and this is continuing. Southall Food Hub, a team of volunteers, continues to support families with food packages and their efforts make a substantial difference to the quality of life for many who are struggling financially.

Councillor Jasbir Anand, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for thriving communities said: “Volunteer Week is a great opportunity to get involved in a community project, meet new people and make a difference to others. The pandemic has impacted people in lots of different ways and we are fortunate that government restrictions now mean people are able to get out and take part in more activities. Getting outdoors and increasing physical activity is also a really positive way in which we can support our own mental health.”

All of the activities that you can get involved in are managed by organisations that have a risk assessment and health and safety procedures to minimise risk of COVID-19 infection.

Becoming a volunteer

The council’s adult learning service is hosting a volunteering webinar on Thursday, 10 June between 4-6.30pm.  This workshop will take attendees through the process and expectations of volunteering in Ealing. Register online and book a place.
