Visitors to Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery are able to see This is England, a portrait exhibition of the EURO 2020 England football squad – including the borough’s own Bukayo Saka, for one week only and the exhibition is now open and is free to Ealing residents.
On public display for the first time, artist Matt Small has brought together the squad in portrait form to celebrate not only their sporting achievement but the diversity of what it means to be English today.
Councillor Jasbir Anand, cabinet member for thriving communities dropped into PItzhanger last week (5 November) to get a first-hand look at the exhibition, which is open to the public until 14 November and free to residents in the borough.
Councillor Anand said: “This is a fantastic series of portraits celebrating England’s amazing football squad including Ealing’s own Bukayo Saka. It is crucial that our young people can see themselves and people like them represented in the arts culture and sports.
“That is why I am so grateful to Pitzhanger for displaying these portraits and this is one of the only chances to see the whole squad together like this.”
Councillor Anand was also pleased to see the Ealing Festivals successfully return to the borough this year. She continued: “This summer I was proud that we were able to put on our Ealing Festival, despite COVID, which for the first time, incorporated a fringe programme in all our seven towns.
“Groups from across the borough were able to come here to Walpole Park to perform, showing the diversity and talent we have here in Ealing.
“We know we still have more to do reducing inequalities in access to culture for children and young people and we are passionately committed to ensuring everyone has the same chances to flourish.”
