To commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell tower block blaze, Ealing Town Hall will be lit up green from dusk this evening.

There were 72 residents of Grenfell who were were killed by the horrific blaze in west London on 14 June 2017.

Green is the colour adopted by families and friends of the victims as part of the Grenfell United campaign group. And residents are encouraged by campaigners to place a green heart in their window on 14 June and to share that image with the hashtag #GreenForGrenfellDay on social media.

This evening (Tuesday, 14 June), survivors will join bereaved families and community groups for a silent walk from the base of the tower at 6.30pm.

Council leader Peter Mason said: “This was a tragedy that will never be forgotten and we will remember those who lost their lives in this atrocious event. We will remember, too, those who survived and those who lost loved ones.

“Ealing Council will always endeavour to do its very best by its residents and ensure that our tenants are safe and well.”

There is also a new public artwork exhibition to mark the anniversary. The Grenfell Memorial Community Mosaic is a four-year art project that brought hundreds of people together to make large-scale public mosaics. Co-created by different community, resident, faith and school groups along with individual participants under the guidance of artists Emily Fuller and Tomomi Yoshida, the project has enabled people to connect and to memorialise the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
