Sincere condolences sent to King Charles III

The Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Mohinder Midha has written to His Majesty King Charles III, on behalf of all residents of Ealing to offer sincere condolences on the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

Councillor Midha writes:

“I write on behalf of all residents of Ealing to offer our sincere condolences to yourself and members of your family on the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

“I hope that at this incredibly sad time you find some comfort in knowing that you are in the thoughts of Ealing’s residents.

“Queen Elizabeth II was an outstanding public servant who gave her life to the service of the Country and the Commonwealth. Her commitment and dedication to public service, right until the end of her long life, will remain an inspiration for all those that lived under her reign and for generations to come.

“I know that the residents of Ealing particularly enjoyed celebrating her platinum jubilee earlier this year where over 150 street parties were held across the borough. It was a truly joyful occasion, in stark contrast with the sorrow we are all now feeling for her passing.

“On behalf of Ealing Council and the residents of Ealing, I would like to express my deep sorrow, but also gratitude for all that Queen Elizabeth did for our country.

“I have the honour to be Your Majesty’s humble and obedient servant.”

‘The steady hand that has guided us’

Councillor Peter Mason, Leader of the Council, Tony Clements, Chief Executive, Councillor Gary Malcolm Leader of the Opposition and Councillor Julian Gallant, Leader of the 2nd Opposition have also written a joint letter to offer sincere condolences to His Majesty King Charles III and to the Royal Family on the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

It reads:

“We write on behalf of your loyal subjects, the residents of the London Borough of Ealing to offer our sincere condolences to your Majesty and to the Royal Family on the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, our most beloved Sovereign and Head of the Commonwealth for these past seventy years. In this, the year of the Jubilee of her reign, families and communities came together in thanksgiving for her life of service and in joy and celebration of Her Majesty’s service to and love for our country and the Commonwealth.

Her Majesty’s love and affection for her most beloved and loyal subjects was reflected, in kind, by love, affection and admiration of her people, expressed so often in the adoring crowds at the countless events attended within the Borough during her reign, or in the congregation of neighbours celebrating in the streets Her Majesty’s many jubilees.

The diversity reflected in the towns comprising our Borough reflect the diversity of the Commonwealth so beloved by Her Majesty. By us all, Her Majesty will be remembered as a most cherished and loved Sovereign, the rock of strength and stability for our nation. A Sovereign of great duty and commitment to serving the United Kingdom throughout both test and triumph.

She has been the steady hand that has guided us, over an extraordinary reign spanning many decades. Whilst so much has changed in our country over the last seventy years, she has remained our constant.

On behalf of the Mayor and the Burgesses of the London Borough of Ealing, and of your Majesty’s most dutiful and loyal subjects, we would like to express our deep sorrow for, and our great gratitude to Her Majesty The Queen and for her service to our nation.

We remain, with the profoundest veneration, your Majesty’s most faithful subjects and dutiful servants.”

Flags on Ealing’s public buildings will be flown at half-mast and a book of condolence has been opened at Ealing Town Hall for those who wish to send messages of condolence. An online book of condolence has also been opened by the Royal Household.

On Sunday, 11 September, at 2pm the Proclamation of Accession will be made on the steps of Ealing Town Hall.  This will be attended by the Mayor of Ealing, the Deputy Lieutenant, leader of the council, councillors, senior council officers and others in observing the proclamation.

Floral tributes can be left in an identified area at the front of Ealing Town Hall.  Eventually these will be mulched and used as compost in the borough’s parks and gardens.

More details on the timetable for the period of mourning will be announced in due course.

During the period of mourning the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Ealing will not wear chains or robes of office but badges of office will be worn on black neck ribbons.  The programme of Mayoral engagements has been reviewed to take account of this period of mourning.
