Earlier this year, Ealing Council secured funding from the Mayor of London’s £2million Growing Back Greener fund to use for improvements to Southall Square.
Initial ideas for improvements include planting more trees, space for edible plants, herbs and flowers, creating additional seating, bringing in community activities and even a vibrant street market.
The council wants to hear your views about the improvements to Southall Square so it can better meet your needs – whether you live in, or do business in, Southall. Say what you think in a short survey, which you have until 18 April 2023 to take part in.
As part of the improvements to the square, there are also plans to remove the concrete pavement in favour of more green areas. This will not only help in creating cleaner air, but will also support local nature and wildlife, alongside sustainable drainage of rainfall.
Climate action
Councillor Deirdre Costigan, cabinet member for climate action said: “We are committed to tackling climate change right here in our borough.
“That’s why, in addition to the Growing Back Greener fund, we are investing an extra £14,220 into Southall Square so we can transform it into a much-needed green space for our residents to enjoy – a mini-oasis in the middle of a buzzing town centre.”
