To encourage more residents to try home composting, Ealing Council is giving away 5 compost bins to readers in this competition.

Compost is a natural fertiliser and is full of nutrients to feed your garden and it is also an environmentally way to recycle your food waste and clippings from your garden.

Compost acts as a natural fertiliser and is full of nutrients to feed your garden and helps to retain moisture in dry weather conditions.

You can save money and make your own compost in your garden by using a discounted compost bin. The council continues to offer compost bins at great value, priced at £28.50 for Ealing residents.

The bin is delivered to your home and comes with a handy user guide.

Did you know?

  • It takes between 9 to 12 months for your compost to become ready for use
  • As well as composting garden waste and uncooked food waste, you can compost shredded cardboard, paper and newspaper
  • At least 30% of contents in the average household bin can be composted
  • Composting at home for just one year can save global warming gases equivalent to all the CO2 your kettle produces annually, or your washing machine produces in three months.

How long does it take for your compost to become ready for use?

Send your correct answers by email to aroundealing@ealing.gov.uk using the subject line Compost bins by the deadline of 11.59pm on Tuesday, 11 July 2023.

Please make sure you include your postal address to be considered in the draw. The five winners will be picked out at random from among the correct entries, after the deadline has closed. Only the winners will be contacted. No financial remuneration will be offered as an alternative.
