A new programme for women entrepreneurs interested in starting their own business was launched last week.
Start-up Enterprise Support for Women is a new initiative to help female entrepreneurs, especially those from excluded groups, learn how to start a successful business. The launch event took place on Wednesday, 7 June at Southall Manor House.
Building a successful business
The programme is led by the University of West London’s (UWL) Westmont Enterprise Hub and funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which was successfully secured by Ealing Council. Start-up Enterprise Support for Women welcomes all women with aspirations to turn their ideas into successful businesses, especially those who find themselves left out of opportunities to start and grow their own enterprises.
The initiative is supported by West London Business, West London Chamber of Commerce, Afghanistan and Central Asian Association, Contact Us Ealing, Southall Community Alliance, Asian Community Concern, and several local community groups and business organisations.

Councillor Louise Brett, cabinet member for decent living incomes, said: “I’m excited about the work that UWL, supported by Ealing Council, are doing to reach out and encourage women in Ealing to chase their entrepreneurial dreams.”
“This kind of work is key in creating an environment where all women, regardless of background, have the opportunity to start a business and see it grow and thrive.”
Dr Suresh Gamlath, pro vice-chancellor for business development, said: “We are honoured to be leading this programme that will deliver a positive social impact for our local community. Everyone realises the importance of an inclusive business economy and reaching out to women across the borough who are running micro-businesses at home or aspire to become entrepreneurs – turning their ideas into tangible businesses. Our programme aims to deliver precisely that.’’
