It’s Pride Month and Ealing is celebrating Pride while the Progress Pride flag flies proudly over Ealing Town Hall.
Celebrated each year in June in honour of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York. Pride Month is an annual celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, bringing people together to celebrate the LGBTQ+ movement and its impact on history, society and cultures worldwide.
Councillors and staff from across the council took to the steps of Ealing Town Hall to take a photo with the Pride flag in support of Pride Month prior to the raising of the flag at the start of June.
First time
For the first time, Ealing Council has a place in the Pride in London march on 1 July. Staff representing the council’s LGBTQ+ staff equalities network applied to march in the London council’s section of the parade. 50 members of staff and councillors will be marching on Saturday holding signs with the council logo adapted to be a rainbow tree, and the council motto, also adapted to read ‘Progress with Unity, Diversity and Pride’.
Proud of Ealing’s diversity
Councillor Jasbir Anand, cabinet member for tackling inequalities said: “I am proud of Ealing’s diversity, and the benefits our LGBTQ+ residents bring to the local economy, community and culture of the borough cannot be overstated. Congratulations to the council’s LGBTQ+ staff equalities network for arranging for the council to march in the parade. I hope this is the first of many, a time when we can celebrate and stand in solidarity with our LGBTQ+ colleagues, friends and neighbours.
This year the parade runs from Hyde Park Corner, through Piccadilly Circus, down Haymarket and along Pall Mall to Trafalgar Square, culminating at Whitehall Place. Attendees are invited to watch from any of the designated public spaces along the route.
