Residents are being reminded that you must take your photo ID when voting in person at polling stations across England.
The next scheduled elections in the borough are The Mayor of London and London Assembly elections on Thursday 2 May 2024.
Photo ID is now required because of a change in legislation introduced by the government.
You will not need to provide photo ID to vote if you choose to vote by post. You can download a postal voting application form.
Voters will only need to show one form of photo ID, but it must be the original. Copies will not be accepted. You will be able to use expired photo ID if you are still recognisable from the photo.
Acceptable forms of photo ID:
⦁ passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state, or a Commonwealth country
⦁ driving licence issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or an EEA state (this includes a provisional driving licence)
⦁ a Blue Badge
⦁ older person’s bus pass
⦁ disabled person’s bus pass
⦁ Oyster 60+ Card
⦁ Freedom Pass
⦁ a PASS card
⦁ biometric immigration document
⦁ a national identity card issued by an EEA state
⦁ a voter authority certificate issued by a Local Authority
If:
- you don’t have any of the accepted forms of photo ID shown in the list above, or
- you are not sure whether your photo ID still looks like you, or
- you are worried about using an existing form of photo ID for any other reason, such as the use of a gender marker
You can either:
⦁ apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate online. You will need a recent, passport style digital photo of yourself and your national insurance number
or
⦁ apply to vote by post instead. You will not need to provide photo ID to vote if you choose to vote by post. You can download a postal voting application form
