Not only is our borough one of the greenest in London, but it is also home to a big fishery with multiple ponds for people to enjoy.
Families are being invited to sample the tranquil joys of fishing for free at a series of taster sessions being offered at Northala Fields in Northolt this autumn, by the charity Get Hooked on Fishing (GHOF).
Anyone who would like to try their hand with a rod and a line can book on to a session and receive some expert help and guidance from the staff and committed volunteers there. All equipment and bait will be provided.
‘Everyone can have a go’
Carl Nye, project manager for GHOF, said: “Everyone can come and have a go, and we’ll try and get you hooked. Everybody’s welcome and someone will always be around to help. We want people to have a brilliant experience and that’s what it’s all about. Let’s get everyone involved, it’s something anyone can do.
“I love to see the smiles on people’s faces and everyone interacting with each other and enjoying being out in the open in the fresh air.”
The charity also does a lot of work with the schools at Northala Fields and the pupils can get to learn a lot about the environment and local wildlife during their visits.

‘It’s a real gem’
Councillor Polly Knewstub, cabinet member for thriving communities, said: “This is such a great way to get families spending valuable time together, and an opportunity to meet other members of the community. The feedback is always really positive and we are pleased that the charity can offer this in one of our beautiful green spaces. There’s so much at Northala for people to enjoy, it’s a real gem.”
