Interested in a career in curating?

An exciting new arts project offering young people in the borough the chance to develop skills to become art curators has been launched.

The Martinware Collective Curatorship 2024 is a 4-month paid placement, starting in September, for 5 young people aged 18 to 25 years old who live in the borough.

It aims to develop the next generation of curators by immersing the young people in an environment that develops their skills and appreciation for the cultural diversity in the borough.

Southall’s Artistic Legacy

The project celebrates the legacy of the Martin brothers, who worked as potters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries from a workshop by the canal in Southall, creating unique ceramics. Their work is now highly prized by collectors and museums across the world.

Organised by Ealing Council and Roaming Projects, and supported by the Art Fund Reimagine project, the placements will provide training in arts curation, opportunities to meet and work with artists and curators, and curate a project for the public.

Councillor Polly Knewstub, the council’s cabinet member for thriving communities, said: “This curatorship is an amazing opportunity for young people in the borough to gain a strong foothold in building a career in the art world.

“We launched our cultural manifesto and action plan so that we could build on our borough’s rich creative heritage and expand opportunities for residents to both enjoy and participate in the creative industries.”
