Ex-servicemen and women, young cadets and families joined the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Yvonne Johnson and the Deputy Lieutenant Richard Kornicki to mark Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June.
The Armed Forces Day flag was raised by the Deputy Lieutenant at a new event on Ealing Green, organised by the council to showcase the work of the armed forces and thank them for their contribution to the borough.
Cadets had stalls showing off their skills and giving the public a chance to try them out too.
There were also musical performances from the cadets.
Armed Forces covenant
It also has a well-publicised Armed Forces Covenant confirming the council’s commitment to supporting veterans and those who are demobilising out of the armed forces with housing and education. This includes information on housing, employment, welfare, education and health services.
Ealing Council is a forces-friendly employer which provides at least an extra 5 days paid leave to reservists for training. As a result, the council has been awarded the silver award by the Defence Employee Recognition Scheme (ERS) and is working towards the gold award.
