Ealing has joined forces with 2 other councils to improve how everyday problems like litter and fly-tipping are tackled, to help clean up our streets.
Harrow and Hounslow councils signed a joint enforcement contract with Ealing that started on Monday (1 July).
The new arrangement with contractor APCOA will mean there will be officers patrolling streets, town centres and parks and open spaces.
These new officers will be able to hand out on-the-spot fixed penalty notices, or fines, of up to £400 to offenders caught in the act. The new team will also be able help the council to take-on ‘hotspot’ areas with known environmental problems.
APCOA can issue fines for a number of offences, including:
- littering, including spitting, urination and leaving food on the ground
- fly-tipping
- unlicensed street trading
- dog fouling
- obstructing the public highway.
APCOA officers can also issue you a fine if you do not take reasonable steps to check that businesses taking away your waste are licenced to do so. It is your responsibility to make sure that whoever you pay to take away rubbish has a proper waste carriers licence. If not, they, as well as you, can be fined.
APCOA officers wear recognisable blue and navy uniforms. Each officer has a body-worn camera to record their interactions with the public. Officers do not accept payment for the FPNs they issue. Payment information can be found on the FPN document.
Residents can report a range of environmental issues via the Love Clean Streets app. Take pictures of litter, fly-tips, graffiti, abandoned cars or other environmental eyesores and upload them on the app.
Reports are sent directly to the service responsible to deal with them promptly. You can also ‘track’ your report and see when it’s been completed.
