This Sunday is Car Free Day. We will be marking it by closing Bond Street in Ealing to traffic. There will be stalls from local businesses, family activities, a Bhangra performance and workshop, plus get involved with games on The Green. It is part of our commitment to encouraging people to walk, cycle or scoot whenever they can.
As a council we are committing £10million to measures to encourage active travel. This investment is about encouraging active travel and about making our high streets attractive places for people to visit. High streets should be about people, we want them to be places people want to visit and stay.
This is the approach we have taken in our improvements in Northolt. We have recently launched the £1million Visions for Northolt programme. There is a new segregated cycle path on Kensington Road as well a facelift for Northolt Green with new lighting and benches. We’ve also done lots of planting to encourage more nature on our streets.
This is just a first step in our ambitious plans for active travel. As well as installing more bike hangers across the borough we have exciting plans for active travel improvements in Hanwell, Southall and Park Royal.
