Have your say on new cycle superhighway

Ealing residents are being encouraged to have their say on plans for a new cycle superhighway, which would link two neighbouring boroughs.

Although it does not enter Ealing, the planned route for Cycle Superhighway 9 passes very close to the borough, running from Kensington to Brentford Town Centre, via Chiswick High Road.

If it gets approval it will be the first cycle superhighway in west London, providing dedicated and protected cycling space alongside some of the area’s busiest roads. It will include improvements to major junctions, such as the area around the entrance to Kew Bridge, making it much safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure, said: “It’s great to see more investment in safe cycling routes and we are pleased to support Cycle Superhighway 9. Although the route doesn’t pass through Ealing itself, it will benefit many of the borough’s cyclists who want a safe route into central London.”

The consultation closes on Tuesday, 31 October. To see the full details of the scheme and take part in the consultation, visit consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/cs9.

Travelling by bike is a healthy, low-cost and environmentally friendly way to get around London. Cycling can also be a quicker alternative to going by car – even now in central London traffic speeds can average just 11mph.

Ealing Council has secured funding from Transport for London (TfL), as part of investment across the capital to create a healthier, cleaner and more inclusive city. Find out more on the council’s cycling webpage.
