RSVP Bhangra, one of the headline acts at Hanwell Hootie 2017

RSVP and make a date to dance at the Hootie

The Hanwell Hootie is getting ever closer. It is only six weeks away now and the acts are being confirmed all the time. One of them, RSVP Bhangra took some time out to tell us how excited they were to be headlining the music festival’s new big top stage which can hold 2,000 people.

You can watch the official promo video for the event on Saturday, 6 May above, and read our chat with the band below.

Showing how far the Hootie’s reputation has been spreading, the band hail from Bristol and will be making the journey across the M4 to play the new stage. RSVP Bhangra’s energetic mix of Indian folk music and modern dance also reflects the widening range of styles of music that will be performed at the Hootie.

You are based in Bristol, aren’t you. What made you interested in coming down to play the Hootie?

We liked the scale and the community nature of the Hootie. Its close to Southall and we also have strong links there too.

It is free for people to come to the Hootie. Do you think that’s important?

Yes, we think that is important, because it allows people who have never seen or heard different types of music to experience and learn more.

You are making history of your own by headlining an entirely new stage for the Hootie this year. Will that mean anything extra to you?

Yes, we are very excited about headlining the new stage. It is a new location and new audience, but we are sure they will love our Bhangra beats and dance the night away.

Tell us more about your music

Our music is based on traditional Bhangra music, which is the folk music of the Punjab in north west India, although we have fused Bhangra music with modern dance and global influences to create an unique and irresistible new sound that people from any backgrounds can enjoy and dance too.

What can people who are coming to see you expect to get?

The show will be an energetic, fun and engaging performance. We will be showing the audience how to do some Bhangra Dance step and then gear up the music to get everyone dancing cra-a-azy!

Tell us something about your band that people might not realise

Although we are from an Indian background, two of the band are Welsh (born in Cardiff) and the others are from Bristol and the West Country. We have performed at Glastonbury over 12 times and toured in Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Where/how can people find out more about you to whet their appetite for the Hootie?
