Finding free or affordable food

Do you know where to go to find healthy and low-cost food in the borough? Ealing Council’s food partnership scheme has launched a new tool to help residents source affordable homegrown produce.

As part of its commitment to reduce food waste, the Ealing Food Partnership has introduced a new food map of where to find nutritious, free or inexpensive food across the borough.

The council launched the partnership in 2022 with residents, communities, volunteers and businesses to support local food growing.

It promotes sustainable food practices and tackles food poverty and climate change, and offers people affordable, healthy, seasonal, and local food.

Councillor Deirdre Costigan, deputy leader and cabinet member for climate action said: “We are determined to help our residents tackle food waste and reduce the amount of perfectly good food going in the bin through surplus food projects like The Ealing Food Partnership and the newly launched map.

“That’s why we made an ambitious promise to create 10 new community growing spaces in the borough by 2026. We’ve delivered 5 new growing spaces and we’re well on our way to our goal.”

“Consuming or growing locally sourced and seasonal food helps to reduce your carbon footprint and environmental impact, contributing to our ambition of making Ealing a net zero borough by 2026.”

The council is also bringing residents community growing spaces, edible gardens in estates, as well as 46 allotments.
