From Monday, 8 June, King Street in Southall partially became one-way (southbound). This allows for wider pavements in the area, to help residents keep their distance when high streets begin to reopen on the 15 June.
The works are part of a list of measures that the council is undertaking to support businesses across the borough. Helping to ensure that Ealing’s high streets are safe for residents to visit as lockdown restrictions begin to ease.
Pavement widening
Work is also underway to widen footways and pavements in other parts of the borough using temporary water barriers to increase the space for shoppers.
This includes pavement widening at:
• the A4020 Uxbridge Road corridor at Broadway/The Mall at Ealing Broadway
• Springbridge Road, Ealing Broadway
• the Broadway, West Ealing outside Lidl supermarket
• Ealing Road, Northolt outside shops
• Horn Lane post office, W3
Markings
The council has also started placing markings on pavements and signs have been put up in Ealing’s town centres to further remind people to keep to social distance guidelines.
Further measures will be rolled out in other areas over the coming weeks to support the high streets and make them safe for visitors.
As lockdown restrictions have not been lifted residents are reminded to continue to follow strict social distancing guidelines when outside. Only shop when necessary and wash your hands for 20 seconds when returning home.
