Great news and summer fun

As school holidays begin and as many of you begin to wind down over the summer, I’m thrilled to share some great news about our recent inspection results for both children’s and adult services.

Children’s Services Improvements

Our children’s services, including social care, fostering, adoption, and support for children with special needs, have been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. This is a huge improvement from the result of our last inspection in 2019, which said that our children’s services ‘requires improvement’. Inspectors praised our corporate leaders for working hard to improve services and commented that “there has been a concerted effort to drive performance and practice standards across children’s services”.

I’m also particularly proud that the achievements of our care leavers were highlighted. We’re proud of the achievements of those in our care and a huge number of our care leavers go on to university and further education. We take our responsibility as corporate parents to children and young people in care very seriously, so it’s brilliant to know that so many children in our care spoke so positively with the Ofsted inspectors about the care and support that they had received from the council.

Adult social care success

Our adult social care team has also received excellent news, with both our short breaks and reablement services being rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission. The short breaks team offers carers a respite, providing a home-from-home environment for those needing nursing or personal care. The reablement service supports individuals recovering from accidents, injuries, or illnesses, helping them regain independence.

Inspectors highlighted that people felt safe and well cared for, and that families were involved in decisions about their care. I dropped into the celebration of the reablement team’s result last week and loved speaking to so many of our carers about the important work that they do.

We’re really proud of these results, which demonstrate our determination to improve our services and to ensure that every child, young person and adult in Ealing can live healthy, active and independent lives from day one.

Summer holiday fun

Over the summer holidays, there is also a huge programme of events happening across the borough – including a variety of budget-friendly activities for the whole family. Find out more about what’s on offer on the Around Ealing news pages.

Additionally, our leisure centres are offering great activities either free of charge or at a reduced cost. For full details, visit your local leisure centre’s website or check our cost of living pages.

Enjoy your summer holidays, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in the autumn.
