A-level and GCSE results days 2024

Students anxiously opened up envelopes at schools across the borough last week to find out their A-level results. Today it is GCSE students’ turn – good luck to everyone.

As we went to press, the percentage of A-level results in local schools of grade B or above was provisionally standing at just over 57% – which is ahead of both the national (53%) and London (56%) figures.

As you may have seen nationally A-level results have risen for students across England, Wales and Northern Ireland for the first time since 2021.

Ealing Council leader Peter Mason said “Early information tells us that students in Ealing have surpassed some national and London A-level results averages, and I am so pleased for all the students, staff and teachers across the borough who worked so hard to get to this point. With 98% of schools in Ealing being rated good or outstanding, schools in the borough consistently produce some of the best results in the country. And I want to send my best wishes to everyone opening their GSCE results today – you’ve done an incredible job.”

If you or someone you know opened their results this week, we hope you got what you wanted and, if you didn’t, remember there are always options available. If you haven’t already done so, talk to your teachers or UCAS for advice on clearing for university or college places. And there are lots of different routes you can take, find out more about apprenticeships and higher education options.

Councillor Louise Brett, deputy leader of the council, joined some very happy A-level students at Greenford High last week who will soon be off to study everything from biochemistry, modern history, and computer science to electrical engineering, pharmacy and interior design.

Councillor Brett said “I was so impressed to meet Greenford students who will soon be starting places at some of the top universities in the country including Cambridge, Kings, Imperial and Kingston. But equally to meet students who did better than they never imagined they could. Whatever your plan is next, we couldn’t be more proud of all of Ealing’s students.”

‘So excited’

We also heard from some A-level pupils at Featherstone High School on the big day.

Namanveer achieved 4 grades of A* and is off to Kings College London to study computer science. She said: “I’m so pleased with my results. I want to thank my teachers for all of their hard work.”

Ammara is off to become a medical student at University College London (UCL) after getting the grades she wanted. She said: “I’ve worked hard and so have my teachers who were very determined to help me and support me.”

Ronny secured an apprenticeship at Sky, working in cyber security. He said: “I’m so glad that my hard work and determination has paid off.”

Priya did well at BTEC and is off to Greenwich to study criminology. She said: “I worked hard because my teachers and my friends really encouraged me and pushed me to do my best. I would like to thank every single teacher.”

Featherstone Headteacher Nathan Walters said: “We are delighted so many of our students have achieved their dreams and ambitions in achieving their grades.”

Councillor Josh Blacker, the council’s cabinet member for a fairer start, said: “This is such an important time of the year for many of our young people, their families and their teachers who have all worked so hard to help them get the grades they need to take the next step in their education or plans for the future. Our learning partnership schools’ staff take great pride in their mantra ‘no learner left behind’ and today is a real testament to that.”
