Enjoy apple games, storytelling and a forest school with apple-themed making at Apple Day 2018. It promises to be a fun day for all the family and even gives you the chance to get involved in squishing and sampling apples and even tasting local cider.
As well as all the activities, visitors can enjoy delicious hot vegan food and home baked cakes.
The event is being held at Horsenden Farm, on Horsenden Hill, on Saturday, 29 September between 11am and 4pm. It is based on traditional apple day celebrations and will be centred on the apples grown in the farm’s orchard.
It is all being organised by Friends of Horsenden Hill, the community group that manages the council-owned farm site with the help of park ranger Jon Staples.
The farm’s resident crafters, Bead Sew Crafty, will host children’s craft workshops. Pupils from Horsenden Primary School will present a Whittlers’ Wood exhibition, which includes children telling their personal stories of planting more than 300 trees on Horsenden Hill last winter; and a display of bunting, all hand-drawn and painted by the pupils themselves. And, if that’s not enough to draw you down to the farm, you might be keen to see Luna, a magnificent Ardennes working horse demonstrating her impressive logging skills. Luna helps with woodland management on the hill.
A cider bar will serve cider made from the Horsenden apples and also limited-edition cherry beer, brewed on the farm by resident brewers Beerspoke, using cherries from the orchard. And, to entertain you, there will be live music and Morris dancers.

How to get there
Horsenden Farm can be reached via Horsenden Lane North, UB6 7PQ. The nearest Tube station is Perivale. The 297 bus stops around the corner. There is free street parking nearby but organisers ask you to leave your car at home if you can because parking on-site is very limited and priority will be given to Blue Badge holders.
