Bond Street to be pedestrianised for a day

To mark World Car Free Day and to enjoy a day of free family and community fun, Bond Street in Ealing Broadway will be closed to traffic on Sunday 22 September.

Ealing Council is hosting an event from midday to 5pm on Bond Street where you’ll be able to explore stalls from local businesses, family activities, a Bhangra performance and workshop, plus get involved with games on the green.

Supporting our thriving community

Car journeys and traffic are inevitable parts of community life, but closing Bond Street for a day not only provides a fun, free event for you to enjoy – it encourages residents to walk, cycle, scoot or use public transport, which are better for health and wellbeing as well as for the environment.

Councillor Paul Driscoll, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: ‘We all know that choosing more active travel options for your shorter everyday journeys, if you’re able, has health, financial and environmental benefits, but data also shows that people walking, cycling and using public transport spend more than motorists in local shops.

“This closure is a great opportunity for us to showcase our local businesses and the fantastic things Ealing Broadway has to offer – connecting and further encouraging our community to thrive. I really hope you can come and join us.’

Closures and diversions on Sunday 22 September

The road will be closed to through traffic from 11am to 6pm, with parking suspensions from 1am on Sunday 22 September.

Cars will be diverted to Mattock Lane and Grange Road, with access to Uxbridge Road and the Broadway.

The 65 bus stop on Bond Street will be closed and the number 65 bus towards Ealing Broadway will be diverted.
