Celebrating Green Flag status

The borough has once again shown it has some of the best parks in the United Kingdom by being awarded 26 Green Flags, an international mark of quality, this year.

The Green Flag Awards recognise and reward the finest parks and green spaces nationwide. Ealing has the eighth highest number of Green Flags in the UK. A Green Flag is a sign that that a park keeps the highest standards, is beautifully maintained and offers excellent facilities.

Of the 26 parks awarded, 23 are owned and managed by the council and 2 are open spaces. An award was also given to Gunnersbury Park, which Ealing Council owns and manages with Hounslow Council.

Vital role in tackling climate change

Councillor Peter Mason, leader of the council, celebrated with Let’s Go Southall members who enjoy free exercise sessions at the outdoor gym in Green-flag winning Southall Park.

He said: “Parks and open spaces are vital for our health and wellbeing and play a vital role in tackling climate change. That’s why we are committed to opening 10 more parks and rewilding 800,00 square metres in the coming years – the first of which, Pear Tree Park, opened over a week ago.”

Councillor Blerina Hashani, the council’s cabinet member for thriving communities, said: We are thrilled to have so many Green Flag parks in our borough again this year. A massive thank you to the Greener Ealing team and all the volunteers who help maintain the high standard of our award-winning parks, allowing everyone to enjoy their beauty year in year out.’’ The 24 Green Flag winning parks managed by Ealing Council are:
