Consultation on renaming of Havelock Road

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan recently announced a commission would review and improve diversity across London’s public realm. Ealing Council said it would be doing the same thing locally – and a consultation on renaming Havelock Road in Southall is now taking place.

This year marks 551 years since the birth of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. To celebrate and honour this occasion, Ealing Council is proposing to change the name of Havelock Road, between King Street and Merrick Road, to Guru Nanak Road or Guru Nanak Way. This would be to symbolise the huge contribution of our Sikh community to the borough and also the borough’s diversity and unity.

Your views needed

The council wants the views of residents on this proposal. It is asking you to read a consultation document fully before completing a short questionnaire to submit your views.

This consultation will be open until 7 September 2020.

What will happen then?

Responses to the consultation on renaming Havelock Road will be reviewed by senior council officers, the leader of the council and the portfolio holder for business and community services. The results of the consultation will then be published on the council’s website within four weeks of the consultation end date.

If you need more information or would like to request a paper questionnaire, please email havelockroad@ealing.gov.uk or call 020 8825 6553.
