Cutting the cost of summer

Are you worried about the cost of the summer holiday, and finding activities and entertainment for the children and whole family?

There are offers out there which will ease that pressure and we’ve been capturing them and listing on Ealing Council’s website. Here’s just a few that have caught our attention.

Free outdoor cinema for the summer

This may be just outside of the borough and a short bus ride away, but this summer the Brentford Project is hosting a free outdoor cinema for anyone to enjoy. Throughout July and August, Everyman on the Water has a full and varied schedule and offers something for everyone. No booking required. Seats offered on a first come, first served basis.

£1 tickets

For those on Universal Credit and other named benefits, Historic Royal Palaces is offering tickets for £1 for day visits to the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace and Kensington Palace.

Kew Gardens is also offering a chance to visit their famous and beautiful gardens for £1 for those on Universal Credit or Pension Credit.

On your doorstep

The borough’s libraries offer free events throughout the year – check out the latest activities – and our parks and open spaces are there for a picnic, quick game of footy, tag, or just a lovely stroll to work off some of that summer energy.

The borough’s New Gen Festival is also back on Wednesday 24 July 2024, 12–9.30pm, in Walpole Park. With 2 stages and lots of opportunities to watch, dance, listen, have a go, be creative, relax, and try something new. Tickets are from £2.50.

Back to school

The hugely popular School Uniform Store is back and will be open daily from Saturday 3 August to Sunday 18 August (10am – 4pm). Families can choose up to 4 items of uniform for free without having to make a donation.

But if you have spare clothes to donate:

  • the donation box is open now next to ‘Flying Tiger Copenhagen’
  • branded and unbranded core uniform items and sportswear all welcome. This can include footwear and school bags
  • the only ask is that any donations are hand-me-down quality and laundered.
