Pause and join in with the Day of Reflection, organised by Marie Curie, at midday on Sunday 3 March, and pay tribute to those who have died, particularly during the pandemic, when many people were unable to properly grieve their loved ones.
‘Connect with others’
Councillor Peter Mason, leader of Ealing Council said: “The Day of Reflection offers an opportunity to connect with others and remember those close to us, family, friends, neighbours and colleagues who we’ve lost.
“It is also an opportunity to acknowledge the strength of Ealing’s community spirit and the support and friendship that was there for those who needed it.
“I encourage everyone to take a moment to acknowledge your grief, to reflect and remember, and to support one another.”
New date
The Day of Reflection was put in place by Marie Curie in 2021 as a day when individuals, families and communities can come together to remember those that died during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the fourth year it has taken place. The original date was 23 March, marking the first lockdown of the pandemic, but this year it moves to a new date of March 3, in line with the UK Commission on Covid Commemoration’s recommendation that the day be held on the first Sunday in March each year.
‘Lasting impact’
Councillor Josh Blacker, cabinet member for heathy lives said: “While the pandemic may be over, for many of us the lasting impact of it isn’t. Those who lost loved ones remember them every day – but a day when we all come together to remember those we lost, and those who are still impacted by the pandemic, is very important.”
If you use social media, Marie Curie is encouraging people to share the name of the person or people they are remembering on social media, using #DayOfReflection and tagging @mariecurieuk.
