Exam results not what you expected? Have no clue what to do next? Well, firstly, stay calm and do not panic. Secondly, go along to a special event on Friday, 26 August.
The annual Connexions Refocus event is held to help any young person, aged 16-19, who is confused about their future. You do not need to be in school or college or even to have taken exams and, if you are not already in a training programme or working, then Refocus may well be able to help you.
Advisers at the event will have all sorts of information, advice and guidance that can support you in taking the next step.
Priya Bedi, a personal adviser with Connexions, the organisation that helps young people realise suitable opportunities, said: “At Refocus we can explore with a young person their ideas and options so that they can make informed decisions.”
Refocus lives up to its name, Priya insisted: “It helps young people re-focus and find their way from whatever point they are at. We offer careers advice, information on education, apprenticeships and training, and generally help them find direction in whatever it is they want to do.”
At the event there will be companies or organisations specialising in everything from construction, catering, admin and IT; to hair and beauty, motor mechanics, the theatre, retail and sales. And, there will be more besides. Many will be able to offer young people apprenticeships, traineeships and other programmes to get them started on the road to a job and career.
Advisers will also be available to help with job hunting, college courses, training, filling in application forms, writing CVs, preparing for interviews and benefits advice.
So do not despair. Go along to the Refocus event on Friday, 26 August between 1.30-4.30pm, at Ealing Connexions, Westside Young People’s Centre, Churchfield Road, Ealing W13.
