“Ealing’s community is its greatest strength. Across the borough people are stepping up to stand together with the most vulnerable in this time of crisis. Thank you to everyone who has pledged support whether donating to the food bank or offering help collecting shopping, ” writes Councillor Peter Mason, Ealing Council’s cabinet lead for housing, planning and transformation, in response to the covid-19 (or ‘coronavirus’) emergency.

Mobilising with the community

“We are working with our partners in the community and voluntary sector, to ensure that we meet the needs of our vulnerable residents during these extraordinary times. Action is under way to bring the community, local businesses and charities and the council together to co-ordinate our response and build on the existing strength and resilience in the borough.

“We will be launching a platform to help you easily find the help available to you, your families, businesses and local and mutual aid groups. Until it launches, you can find advice on the council’s website.

How to help

“We know that there are people in the local community who want to do their bit and help. Many of our local charities are already supporting vulnerable people in the borough and they need your assistance. We will be publishing a list of local groups that people can either donate to or volunteer with. If you are a local charity and want to make sure that you are included on our list, please get in touch. In the meantime, take a look at our advice on how you can help.

“We are asking everyone to do their bit and help flatten the curve by following the guidance on the NHS website. We are also asking people to shop for food and medicine responsibly. Some people have been buying more than they need to. Please stop. There is enough for everyone if you only take what is reasonable for you and your family. 

“BEFriend is helping isolated and vulnerable residents to source food. They are raising money so they can buy shopping for vulnerable people with no access to cash and welcome all donations on their website.
