The promise of spring is arriving – not just warmer days and daffodils, but also the Easter school holidays, too. If you’re looking to fill your calendar with things to do to keep the family entertained, there are lots of free and low-cost activities to enjoy in the borough.
From crafts and culture to butterflies and bunnies, you will find it all on your doorstep.
A-maze-ing
Hanwell Zoo’s butterfly house will be open from Easter weekend until the end of summer. With Brent Lodge Park’s millennium maze and playground right next to the zoo, it is a fun day out for all the family. You can book your tickets in advance on the Hanwell Zoo website.
New-look libraries
Acton town hall, Northolt and Southall’s Dominion Centre libraries will be open again in time for the holidays, following significant refurbishment, so check out the council’s website for some special events taking place. The borough’s libraries also offer weekly storytelling, craft, and games sessions, as well as activities for under 5s. And, there are sessions geared towards the grown-ups too.
Easter hunt
If you are looking for an Easter-themed activity, then head to Acton for the Easter Bunny Trail between 4-22 April. A total of 25 wooden bunnies will be hidden inside businesses, and 5 giant eggs placed in the town centre for you to find. Once you have discovered the names of all the bunnies and written down the locations of as many giant eggs as you can find, you can hand the form into the collection point at ActOne Cinema, High Street, for a chance to win a prize in the hamper draw on 24 April.
Film fun
Does your child enjoy movies more than arts and crafts? Why not head along to the Ealing Project cinema, which runs ‘Fun Sized Kids Club’ every Saturday. It costs £3.50 per child or £24 for a family of 4. The films change each week so keep an eye on the Ealing Project website.
Mini makers
Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery is hosting a special holiday edition of Mini Makers on Friday 11 and 18 April, between 10am-12pm and 12-2pm. Artist Lewis McVey runs the sessions with various activities for babies and children up to 7 years old, encouraging them to build, paint, play and draw. These sessions are £15 for one adult and one child and are available to book on Pitzhanger Manor’s website.
There are other free sessions and activities to choose from too. Visit the Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery website to find out more.
A woodland adventure
Or, why not head over to Parkside Yards, in Southall, where there is a play area and even a giant jumping pillow? There is also a nature trail, complete with 600 trees, woodland animal sculptures and picnic benches to simply sit and enjoy the outdoors.
And finally…
You could enjoy some of the borough’s many parks and open spaces and use it as an opportunity to take capture some spring moments and enter the latest Seasons of Ealing photo competition.
