Free film screenings come to Ealing Green

Marking the end of summer, Ealing’s High Streets Task Force is bringing a free pop-up outdoor cinema to Ealing Green for the August bank holiday weekend. With a selection of Hollywood blockbusters, musicals and family-friendly films, the screenings will take place at 2.30pm and 7.30pm daily, from Thursday 26 August to Monday 30 August.

Sing-a-long with ABBA and The Beatles, with screenings of Mamma Mia! and Yesterday, or go wild with the whole family with kids’ favourite Zootropolis and theupdated Disney classic The Lion King.  The free film screenings are the perfect bank holiday activity to enjoy the last of the warmer weather and longer evenings.

Part of a series of events to celebrate and bring life back to Ealing’s high streets, the free film festival will take place on Ealing Green, at the heart of Ealing Broadway.  Nestled near Pitzhanger Manor and moments away from the buzz of the high street, why not grab a take-away from one of the many local restaurants, bring a blanket and take along a friend.

Seating for the screenings is limited, so please register in advance to avoid disappointment. Some seating will be reserved for walk-ins on the day. Films and times subject to change. Please note alcohol is not permitted at these events.

Full listings and event details can be found on the Eventbrite listing.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, Ealing Council’s cabinet member for decent living incomes, said: “These film screenings are great way for people to get out, reconnect and rediscover the local area while enjoying an outdoor film. Best of all they are free, so why not take this opportunity to visit the high street before the event, grab a pre-film snack or some goodies to enjoy throughout film.”

Helping the high streets

The outdoor cinema is part of a programme of work being delivered by Ealing’s High Streets Task Force. The group has been working behind the scenes to bring the bustle back to our high streets and support Ealing’s recovery from the pandemic.

There will be a full programme of events and experiences for the community lined-up over the coming months. Remember to follow us on social media for more announcements and updates.

Choosing local this summer supports Ealing jobs, while community businesses also generate money to support local charities and fund our services such as libraries, parks and roads that benefit everyone.

Welcome back funding

The free events are provided thanks to funding Ealing’s High Streets Task Force has received from the Reopening High Streets Safely Fund and the Welcome Back Fund from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Greater London Authority is the Managing Authority for European Regional Development Fund.

Established by the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regenerations.
