Free repairs: Fix it Friday

From fixing your bike’s squeaky brakes, to mending a hole in your favourite jumper, residents can take advantage of free repairs at a special event on Friday.

Fix it Friday is a one-off community event focused on repair and sustainability. Come along from 3-6pm on Friday 7 March to Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre. It has been organised by West London Waste Authority, in partnership with charity retailer Traid and supported by Ealing Council, as part of London Repair Week.

Fix it Friday activities

You can:
• bring an item of clothing in need of repair, and learn how to mend it with Traid’s sewing tutors
• get a free bike check and minor repairs with Dr Bike and Let’s Ride Southall
• get your children involved with Team Repair, which teaches young people how to fix everyday items

This event is open to everyone, no booking required. Simply bring your items along and take part.

‘It really is a win-win’

Councillor Paul Driscoll, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “London Repair Week is an initiative designed to give you the confidence to get repairing, and this event is a great place to start.

“Repairing not only saves you money by taking away the need to buy new items but also helps to reduce waste and combat climate change. It really is a win-win.”

Library of Things

Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre is also home to the borough’s Library of Things hub, where you can borrow household items, tools and equipment for a small fee. Renting items, rather than buying them, reduces the risk of those items being wasted and never used again.

Need a hand getting your ‘thing’ home? You can now hire a cargo bike to transport your items to and from the lockers with ease.

And, your first ride is free. Go to the OurBike website for more information.
