Volunteering is at the heart of Gunnersbury Park and Museum. And it gives you a great way to get involved, meet new people, develop new skills and learn more about its rich heritage.
Gunnersbury Estate is the former home of the Rothschild family and is steeped in history, including two Georgian mansions (Grade II and Grade II*) and other historic buildings nestled in Gunnersbury Park. Visitors can explore the 75 hectares of parkland and discover the museum’s collections that tell the story of the history and people of west London.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Museum galleries
- Park and gardens
- Park ranger
- Tours, talks and events
- Sewing and costume
- Marketing and social media
- Collections and archives
- Outdoor and indoor learning activities
- Historic building upkeep and maintenance.
Inside the galleries and outside in the garden
As you can see, volunteers can get involved in lots of different ways at Gunnersbury Park and Museum.
Museum volunteers spend time helping people feel at home during their visit – manning the galleries and historic rooms, encouraging and advising visitors. It is a great opportunity to share your passion and enthusiasm for local social history.
Volunteers are also needed in the community kitchen garden, which is within one of the original walled gardens that once provided Gunnersbury’s occupants with edible produce and cut flowers.
They assist the head gardener with gardening duties, including growing fresh vegetables and carrying out maintenance like digging and weeding – and also helping with horticulture and conservation projects in the wider parkland.
