Group ready for BMXercise class

Get on track for some BMX fitness

Lots of people cycle to get fit and active but not many people consider jumping on a BMX track to do the same. Well, now there is a women-only session that does just that.

BMXercise is being run by the popular Ealing BMX Club to involve women and girls in the growing sport, with the aim of getting fit while having fun.

It is a women-only programme originally developed by Access Sport and it focuses mainly on increasing fitness, as well as core strength and stability, balance and co-ordination. Led by expert coaches, the sessions are held every Thursday, between 6.30-8pm, at Ealing Council’s BMX track next to Gurnell Leisure Centre.

Ealing BMX Club has grown from humble beginnings to become a thriving part of community life. In 2014 the club had just 12 riders, limited equipment and no regular coach. Now it attracts more than 50 riders each week; has a coaching team that runs sessions for every level, from beginners through to experts; and has a growing team of parent volunteers. It also runs sessions for local schools.

Last year, the club started a new session, Wingz BMX, for riders with additional needs. And this programme won the club an Inclusive and Active Award at the 2017 Ealing Sports Awards.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, the council’s cabinet member for finance and leisure, said: “These new BMXercise sessions are designed to be friendly and enjoyable and you will also get to meet lots of other people of all abilities so there’s no pressure. Come along, you never know, you might just have fun.”

The first BMXercise session is free and any subsequent sessions will have a charge of £5, which includes all equipment hire.
