People who live or work in Ealing are invited to have their say on the council’s proposed electric vehicle (EV) strategy, and to share their views and experiences of EV charging.
Ealing Council has set up 2 consultations, which are now open:
- a short survey about the council’s borough-wide strategy for increasing the number of electric vehicle charging points
- a second short survey about your charging habits, if you own an electric vehicle
The surveys will close on 6 January 2025, and your view and feedback will help us to understand how you feel about the strategy and electric vehicles.
The charging strategy aims to help make it easier for more residents to make the switch to electric vehicles and meet the expected future demand for them. It is also an important part of the council’s broader commitment to climate action which aims to cut carbon emissions in the borough and achieve ‘net zero’ by 2030. It also supports the government’s plans to phasing out sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030.
The strategy highlights the need for an efficient network of charging points, making it easier for residents to charge their vehicles close to home, work, or during leisure activities.
Council leader, Peter Mason, said: “As we work to achieve net zero in carbon emissions by 2030, we are rapidly expanding the number of accessible charging points across the borough to make it easier for residents to charge their electric vehicles. By having fewer petrol or diesel vehicles on our roads, we will have cleaner air and fewer harmful emissions.
“Our Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy sets out our plans to meet increasing demand for charging points as people switch to electric vehicles. But it’s vital that local people have their say on our plans, which is why we encourage everyone to contribute their views on the consultation.”
Councillor Paul Driscoll, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said: “Tackling climate change requires bold and effective actions, whilst we encourage people to choose active travel such as walking, cycling or using public transport, easy access to electric vehicle charging is an important part of the puzzle.
“We want to hear people’s thoughts on our approach and ensure it fully meets the community’s needs.”
Share your views about EV charging, whether you own an EV, are considering switching to one, or are not sure if it will work for you. The council’s focus remains on supporting the shift to cleaner transport, reducing emissions, and delivering a healthier, more liveable environment for future generations.
