Are you looking to enhance your skills or improve your career prospects? With the new year just around the corner there are plenty of free courses, such as vocational training or digital skills, to get stuck into.
Start your journey by coming along to one of Ealing Council’s learning zones – dedicated spaces where residents can access skills training and employment support.
The zones – currently running in Acton library and Hanwell community centre – offer digital skills training and access to technology such as public computers and free Wi-Fi and help residents to engage with the online world – whether that’s to apply for jobs, access public services, or to stay connected.
‘Exceptionally good’
Determined to overcome health issues and keep motivated, resident Patricia Joseph set herself on a path of learning new skills with a view to finding the right job for her. Patricia decided to enrol on maths and digital skills courses after visiting one of the borough’s learning zones.
She said: “At first it was strange to be back in the classroom after so many years, but now I have become quite accustomed to being a student once again. It’s very interesting and stimulating to be around people again in a group environment, especially with such a wide variety of students of different ages, backgrounds, and cultures. The atmosphere is exceptionally good. I am very appreciative of the opportunities provided by Learn Ealing.”
‘A resilient community for the future’
Councillor Kamaljit Nagpal, the council’s cabinet member for decent living incomes recently visited the Acton learning zone.
She said: “Our learning zones break down barriers to development opportunities and address inequalities head-on, creating a more inclusive, skilled, and resilient community for the future.
“The adult learners I met at the Acton learning zone were preparing for a mock exam as part of their digital skills training. It’s so inspiring to speak with learners from diverse backgrounds, including those new to the UK and those reskilling after a career break.
“This initiative is a fantastic opportunity for every resident to have the chance to thrive in an increasingly digital world.”
