Hand putting a voting slip into a ballot box. You need to register for the Hobbayne by-election

Notice of 3 by-elections

By-elections will take place on 10 October to elect a ward councillor in each of the following wards:

• Hanger Hill
• Northolt Mandeville
• South Acton

The by-elections will fill the vacancies brought about by the resignation of councillors who were elected as Members of Parliament in the July UK Parliamentary general election.

Registered voters will soon receive a polling card in the post containing information on where to go to vote, or whether arrangements are in place for a postal vote.

The closing date and time for people to apply to stand for election in these wards is Friday 13 September at 4pm.

Candidates’ details will be published on the elections pages on the council’s website at 5pm on Friday 13 September.

For more information go to the elections pages on the council’s website or contact the elections team by emailing elections@ealing.gov.uk or calling 020 8825 7777

If you live in the wards where by-elections are taking place and would like to vote in the upcoming by-elections, you must be registered to vote.

Anyone who has moved address or is not on the electoral register can register to vote up until midnight on Tuesday 24 September 2024 by visiting the government website.

If you won’t be able to get to the polling station on the day, you can apply for a postal or proxy vote. You must apply for a postal vote by 5pm, Wednesday 25 September.

You can also ask someone you trust to vote on your behalf. This is known as a proxy vote. You must apply for a proxy vote by 5pm on Wednesday 2 October or change existing proxy arrangements by 5pm on Wednesday 25 September.

If you’re not sure which ward you live in you can check by entering your postcode or address on the council’s website.

Voter ID

Voters need to show photo identification when voting at polling stations.
For more information, and to see which forms of photo ID are accepted, please visit our voter ID webpage.

If you don’t have a valid form of photo ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC). The deadline for us to receive your VAC application to use in the by-elections is 5pm on Wednesday 2 October. We encourage voters to apply sooner in case we need to check any details with you.

You can also apply by filling out a paper application form and returning it to the Electoral Services Office. Contact the elections team on 020 8825 7777 or email elections@ealing.gov.uk to ask for a paper form.

You must be registered to vote before applying for a Voter Authority Certificate.
