Pathways, an award-winning programme, is looking to recruit young people at the end of October.
The programme is run by Ealing Council for young people who are ready to take the next step into an apprenticeship, job or further training but would benefit from some additional support and guidance.
As a Pathways trainee you would get the practical experience, guidance and training needed to help you enter employment. Applicants need to be aged between 16-24, and willing to commit to a 20-week programme for five-days a week.
The Pathways programme includes:
- A paid work placement for two days a week
- Accredited training in employability, English and maths
- Personal development including mentoring, CV-writing and interview practice
- Social action projects, trips and team work activities.
Diana’s story
Diana Skwarczowska began her pathways placement in January 2016 in the local welfare assistance team working alongside transition officers facilitating work clubs across Ealing.
“What I enjoyed most about my work placement was meeting local residents and being able to give something back to the community through helping them into employment,” Diana said. “The employability courses were also really good because they taught us how to write a CV, fill out job applications and prepare for job interviews, which were useful when I applied for my apprenticeship.
“I would recommend the programme because it is a good start to choosing your career, especially if you are unsure about what you want to do, because you’re able to learn about yourself and your skills, and what kind of working environment suits you best.”
After graduating from the scheme Diana secured an apprenticeship with the employment and skills team at Ealing Council and is now undertaking her level 3 qualification.
A high number of pathways graduates move into jobs and further training. Graduates also have the opportunity to receive support to apply for the council’s internal apprenticeship programme.
A high number graduates have graduated have gone on to progress into the council’s apprenticeship programmes, or other employment.
