Proud to Care – local people needed for care jobs

A new, London-wide recruitment drive for jobs in the care sector, called Proud to Care London, started this week. And Ealing Council is proud to be part of it.

This new jobs website for the care sector has been set up to link people up with crucial roles to help the capital tackle the effects of COVID-19.

More carers are needed to support people when they leave hospital, to get back on their feet and regain their independence. Many people, because of the current work restrictions, are looking for work and #proudtocare provides an opportunity for people to make a real difference while earning an income.

The council would like to hear from anyone interested in a whole range of roles – especially people who used to work within the health and social care sectors in the recent past; and those in existing roles. The list of opportunities extends from care workers at the frontline, to chefs and cleaners in important support roles.

Proud to Care London works in partnership with Social Work England, the Department for Education, the Department of Health and Social Care, the Local Government Association and key care sector recruitment agencies.

What can I apply for?

There are six job categories that people can register interest in: Care workers, care managers, social workers, occupational therapists, chefs and cleaners.

  • Registered social worker working in another sector or not currently in employment.

Help to apply

Members of the council’s adult and social care team will be available to speak to potential candidates. They will help you understand more about working in the care sector and help prepare you for employment. It takes just two minutes to complete a short application online.

Support includes:

  • Free online training so you will be ready for the job
  • Identify suitable roles for the candidate
  • Pre-employment checks, such as DBS
  • Support to match candidates to suitable local jobs.

Do not delay. If you are a care worker, care manager, social worker, occupational therapist, chef or cleaner looking for work, or you would like to be deployed into the care sector in one of these roles, find out more and register.

‘We need to recruit more people to provide care’

In a joint statement, Councillor Binda Rai, the council’s cabinet member for health and adult services; and Councillor Yvonne Johnson, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for schools and children, said: “We recognise the invaluable contribution being made by our health and social care workers during these unprecedented times. To support our existing workers in this sector, we need to recruit more people to provide care locally and, in doing so, to protect the NHS and save lives.

“If you are currently unemployed, and interested in working in the care sector or you are currently supporting people in their own home, in a care home or other residential setting, please apply for this recruitment programme. The Ealing health and social care specialist team will provide you with all the support and training that you need.”
