Dean Gardens is going to be transformed so that it is safer, greener, and more enjoyable – and will include a community garden space.

One of the many exciting ­aspects of the developed space will be new and improved play areas. This will be a rich play environment where children can enjoy a wide variety of experiences whilst learning about the natural environment. This will be accessible for all, allowing children of different ages to play together and building opportunities for children to experience challenges.

There will be a dedicated growing area which will offer a new type of community led gardening in the park. These new raised gardening beds will be an educational resource for adults and children. The activity will help to bring the community together through shared activities and experiences.

New lamp columns will be installed along all the new paths to increase night-time visibility across the whole park. The lighting will use warm golden tones to minimise disturbance to wildlife.

Councillor Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council said: “Dean Gardens is  the heart of West Ealing and offers an open escape from the busy Uxbridge Road. I am delighted that we are putting in funding with TfL to transform the space so that there are plenty of activities to choose from for all residents to enjoy.

“I would like to thank all of our partners for their help on the Live West Ealing project. And send a massive thank you to all the local community groups who helped with ideas, without their local knowledge we would not be able to create a space that is right for the community.”

Residents that want to find out more are invited to an event where the Live West Ealing team will be presenting their ideas on the redevelopment of Dean Gardens. Come along from 5 – 8pm on Wednesday 1 April at Lido Centre 63 Mattock Ln, Ealing, London W13 9LA

For these developments to take place Dean Gardens will be closed in early Summer 2020 and a new improved Dean Gardens will re-open in Spring 2021. Whilst Dean Gardens is closed residents can use nearby parks in Walpole Park, Drayton Green and Lammas Park.

Residents can also turn their road into a PlayStreet, an initiative that allows you to close your road from cars. This provides a great chance to bring a real sense of community spirit to the whole street. Find out more or email playstreets@ealing.gov.uk

The funding for the transformation of Dean Gardens is part of the wider Live West Ealing project, a collaboration between Transport for London, Ealing Council and local organisations. The aim is to make positive changes to the neighbourhood which contribute to improved conditions for walking, cycling and public transport.

The idea is that these improvements also help to improve air quality and increase local people’s activity levels through reducing traffic. Businesses will also be supported by making local town centres more attractive and accessible.
