Following its temporary closure because of COVID-19, Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery is reopening on Thursday (10 September), with a new exhibition on the artist Hogarth.
A number of measures have been introduced to make sure the listed manor house building and its gallery are safe and inspiring places for everyone. All visitors will need to pre-book their tickets and there is a new one-way system to help with social distancing. Meanwhile, the opening hours have been extended for Thursday to Sunday each week to give visitors more time to enjoy all that is on offer.
Hogarth: London Voices, London Lives
Pitzhanger’s new exhibition, Hogarth: London Voices, London Lives, centres around Hogarth’s morality tale A Rake’s Progress – and the eight paintings in the series return to Pitzhanger for the first time in 200 years, on loan from Sir John Soane’s Museum.
In addition, a series of works by contemporary artists explore a broader view of society, offering a snapshot of the people and places that give life to the city today, from polarising views expressed on social media to the challenges of retaining outdoor space for the public.
The artists featured are Faisal Abdu’Allah, Ruth Ewan, James Fritz, Oliver Payne & Nick Relph, John Riddy and debbie tucker green, together with the archive from Long Live Southbank.

The Dodo pops up
Celebrating the reopening, local pub The Dodo Micropub will take up residency for two long weekends at the Pitzhanger café restaurant Soane’s Kitchen and its terrace in Soane’s walled kitchen garden. The Dodo Micropub is the current Ealing Pub of the Year 2020. It will be bringing British, locally sourced and crafted produce and refreshments.
The pop-up residency will take place between 10-13 September and 17-20 September, open from 5pm on Thursday and Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council and board member of the Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery Trust said: “I am very pleased that this local cultural jewel in our crown is reopening its doors. And with an opportunity to view an outstanding exhibition, a real treat for all visitors.
“I urge Ealing residents to take advantage of the concession price for a ticket, or visit for free on a Sunday, 11am to 2.30pm. But remember that all tickets will need to be booked.”
