Offering 10 free places, local training academy, Sev Necati Training, in partnership with the Metropolitan Police and Ealing’s Safer Neighbourhood teams, is running a free 7-week course from Saturday, 4 November. It will teach you and train you with the latest self-protection techniques and tactics as well as the right mindset designed to keep you safe.
Excellent opportunity
Councillor Jasbir Anand, cabinet member for tackling inequality said: “This is an excellent opportunity for women and girls, mothers and daughters, friends and neighbours to boost their confidence through self-defence, learn new skills and feel safe when they are out.”
Ealing Council has spent a significant amount of time listening to women and making changes where possible to help women feel safe in the borough, as part of our Safer Ealing for Women Partnership. Having listened to women across the borough, the council has launched a new website – A Safer Ealing for Women – which provides a place for women and girls to get up to date information on activities and services in the borough.
“Abuse and harassment is commonly experienced by women, and often goes unreported,” commented Councillor Jasbir Anand. “This is for a number of reasons including women fearing they won’t be believed and not knowing where to go for support, particularly when it relates to lower-level misogyny. I urge women and girls who may have been victimised or attacked or have fears around their safety to take advantage of this opportunity – I for one will be!”

Sev Necati is the women’s self-defence instructor for the Self-Protection Association (SPA). Her work is supported by organisations such as the Metropolitan Police and Victims Support.
She said: “We’re delighted to be running another free course in Ealing. This is a great opportunity for women and girls who want to increase their independence and confidence through self-defence and to take advantage of this offer. The course will provide practical techniques, regardless of their background, age or ability which will include self-defence training and vital knowledge on street safety.
