Seasons of Ealing: enter our spring competition

Get your phones and cameras at the ready, because we are launching our next seasonal photo competition next week – with the winner again being selected by the public and published in Around Ealing magazine and on our website.

Entries to Seasons of Ealing spring 2024 can be sent in from Friday 22 March. The idea is for you to send in your favourite snaps of anything with a spring feel to it. It could be a landscape, a skyline, wildlife, your family playing in fallen leaves; whatever captures your interest. The key is that it has to be taken in the borough, by you.

Seasons of Ealing made a fantastic comeback over the winter, thanks to a combination of the exceptional photos sent in by readers and then more than 7,000 of you helping to choose our winner.

‘Grateful to those who voted’

Our winter winner, Ealing resident Alice Jakubiak, was thrilled to see her entry on the front cover of the latest Around Ealing magazine. She posted on her Instagram to tell her followers how the loss of her beloved dog inspired the capture of the stunning red robin that won the competition.

She said: “Wildlife photography became a cherished pursuit of mine after her departure. It rekindled my desire to stroll through local parks again, which I couldn’t bear to do without her.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the people who voted for me. Thank you so so much.”

Win cinema tickets

As well as seeing her winning entry in the magazine, Alice also won 4 tickets to Ealing Picturehouse cinema, who sponsored the competition.

Picturehouse is kindly sponsoring the spring competition, too, so there are more cinema tickets up for grabs for our lucky winner.

Get snapping

The spring 2024 Seasons of Ealing competition opens on 22 March 2024 and will close on Monday, 6 May 2024. At that point, a shortlist will be selected and a public vote will decide the winner.
Our aim is to run the competition every season, giving you multiple opportunities to enter throughout the year.

How do I enter?

Email your photo to aroundealing@ealing.gov.uk by the closing deadline for entries, which is 11.59pm on 6 May 2024.

For your photo to be considered, you must:

  • put Seasons of Ealing in the subject line of the email
  • include your name, postal address and phone number
  • include a brief description of what the photo is of, when you took it and where you took it
  • state that the photo was taken by you, and that you also have permission of any people whose faces appear in the photo to enter the photo into the Seasons of Ealing competition
  • make sure the image is of a high enough resolution to be reproduced online and in print (poor quality images will not be considered)

What happens then?

After the deadline for entries, a panel will judge the entries and select a shortlist. These shortlisted photos will be showcased here on our website and then everyone can get involved because the winner will be selected via an online public poll.
After the poll has closed, the winning photo will be featured in an edition of Around Ealing magazine.

Other things to know

By entering the competition you are agreeing for your photo to be reproduced in Around Ealing magazine, aroundealing.com website, and the council’s social media channels. No remuneration will be possible, but you will be named as the photographer if it is used in the Around Ealing magazine or website.

We will not, unfortunately, be able to reply to everyone who has entered the competition.
If any image is found not to have been taken in the borough, or to have broken any of the other conditions outlined above, the photo will be disqualified from the competition.

Will there be more competitions?

Yes, we intend for this to continue and another Seasons of Ealing competition is due to run in the autumn. Keep an eye on Around Ealing magazine and aroundealing.com for details nearer the time. Even better, make sure you are signed up to the weekly Around Ealing Extra email to make sure you get the news first – you can sign up via an Ealing Council My Account or by signing up directly online.
