Singles, doubles, serious or fun, tennis is a fantastic way to get moving at any age. At Gunnersbury Park’s courts there are plenty of coaching opportunities for children and adults and even holiday camps.
As a full body workout, tennis not only keeps your cardiovascular and muscular system in top shape but also enhances co-ordination, can boost your mood and is a great social game. In fact, any activity that raises your heart-rate counts toward the NHS’s recommended 150 minutes of moderate activity a week for adults and improves the chance of living a longer and healthier life.
With free community tennis sessions now available, there is no better time to start the new year the way you intend to continue. As part of the regeneration project taking place at Gunnersbury (led by Ealing and Hounslow councils), the Better Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub is now offering free sessions every Tuesday, 12noon–1pm and a free women’s only session every Tuesday between 1.30–2.30pm.
Tennis for children
To encourage children, who might not otherwise consider it, try playing for the first time with the £25 Tennis For Kids courses being offered from Saturday 2 February, 11am – 12noon, for eight to 11 year-olds. Every child will receive six high-quality lessons, a special Tennis For Kids Babolat racquet, a ball set, and a personalised T-shirt.
Be on the ball to book half term camps
Get the kids outdoors and into the fresh air over February half term with a tennis camp from Monday, 18 February to Friday, 22 February. With racquets and balls provided, each day will focus on different tennis skills while also including fun tennis-based games. Children will also be involved in organised match play.
Half term camp will run for different age groups with ages four-seven playing 10am-12noon ; while ages eight-12 will play 12.30-2.30pm. The camp costs £50 for the whole week, which covers 10 hours of on court activities overall.
