New tier level from 2 December

The government has announced a move to tier 2 COVID restrictions next week.

The current national restrictions will be lifted on 2 December, with England returning to a regional tiered approach.

London will be moving to the high alert level (tier 2) meaning that, from Wednesday, 2 December:

  • Residents cannot socialise indoors with anyone they do not live with or who are not in their support bubble
  • Rule of six – you must not socialise with a group of more than six people outside, including in a garden or public space
  • You must work from home where possible
  • Hospitality businesses selling food or drink for consumption on their premises are required to:
    • Provide table service only, in premises which sell alcohol
    • Close between 11pm and 5am (hospitality venues in airports, ports, transport services and motorway service areas are exempt)
    • Stop taking orders after 10pm.

Council leader Julian Bell said; “I want to thank everyone in our borough for all the sacrifices they have made since the start of the pandemic. This collective effort has not only slowed down the spread of the virus it will have saved the lives of people in this borough. We were expecting London to be placed in tier 2 and this seems a sensible decision at this time.

“However, even though rules will relax from next Wednesday, we cannot return to normal yet and this means continuing to follow the rules over the coming weeks and months until people can be vaccinated.”

Residents are encouraged to read the full list of restrictions on the government’s website, which includes information on weddings, religious gatherings, teams sports and more.

The new rules might mean that some council services are affected, information about changes to services will be available on our website

The government has announced that families will be able to create a Christmas bubble with family members between 23–27 December.

Christmas restrictions

This means that families can create an exclusive bubble over the period with no more than three households. More information on Christmas restrictions are available on the government’s website.

Test and trace

People who have been told to self-isolate by Test and Trace, were previously shielding or are isolated and are worried about sourcing food or essentials, can call the council’s Ealing Together line for advice on 020 8825 7170.  Help may be available with securing an online food delivery slot or identifying local volunteers who can collect shopping.

People on low incomes who are self-isolating may be eligible for a Test and Trace support payment. Residents in financial crisis who cannot pay for food can also call 020 8825 7170. More information on support available from the council can be found on the Ealing Together website and council website.

Clinically vulnerable people need to take extra care to protect themselves by strictly maintaining social distancing, meeting outside if possible, and keeping the number of different people they meet low.

Protect yourself and others

Residents must follow the current public health guidance when leaving their home:

  • Hands – wash your hands regularly
  • Face – use a face covering where required
  • Space – keep your distance from others.

Get tested

Residents must book a test and isolate with their household, if they have one or more of the following symptoms:

  • A new continuous cough
  • A high temperature
  • Or a loss of sense of smell or taste.

Residents should either book online at one of our three local testing sites, or ring 119.
